Developments

From barn conversions to flats, we have undertaken to develop a number of exciting residential and commercial projects in and around the West Country for ourselves and for both private and commercial clients:

  • Princetown
  • Frogmore, Kingsbridge
  • Private Residential
  • Private Commercial

Projects

Retail outlet and Office

We were asked to design and build a shop for a local caravan site and dealership which was to enlarge, enhance and greatly upgrade the facilities they already had. The stipulations were clear; maximise the retail space, encompass an office, provide toilet facilities which were to be available out of hours too, storage space which was to be linked to the existing workshops at the back, full security system and full disabled access throughout.

Princetown

This development of 7 detached and 2 semi-detached houses at Princetown on Dartmoor was out first full scale development for ourselves. The properties were of a timer frame construction with block and brickwork walls with render finish, slate tiles and UPVC windows, doors and facia. The work and design was very exacting due to the standards set by the Dartmoor National Park as well as the standards expected by the NHBC from their ‘approved’ house-builders.

Frogmore, Kingsbridge

Jeffery’s Meadow is a development of 4 town houses and a barn conversion in a semi rural setting. Although it is at present under construction, we expect the new build part of the development to be completed by December 2007, with the barn conversion completed early 2008.

The Construction Industry is a continuously evolving process, from the basic materials to the criteria of the planning and design issues required. Building regulations and carbon footprint requirements had tightened from the previous developments and South Hams District Council had different issues they wanted addressed. These properties due to their location, also needed a different feel to them. Although we wanted to build family sized town houses of timber frame construction with block and render finish, the details of this development where important in combining the setting with modern building practices. Walling slate was recycled from the site and used in the retaining and garden walls as this tied in the new houses with the barn conversion to the side.
